Our Fees

As with doctors we are disbarred from advertising our fees as this would be in breach of the Veterinary Council of Ireland Code of Professional Conduct.

However we are of course free to provide you with the fee for consultations, vaccinations, neutering etc should you wish to call us. Sometimes it is necessary to see a pet before we can give an accurate estimate (e.g. for neuterings as the cost is size dependant, for dental work as the cost depends on the severity of disease) and if so our nurses will see you at the practice and provide you with an estimate for which no fee is generally payable.

We can however state that our fees are in line with those of similar veterinary hospitals in the area and in general would be a little lower than equivalent practices in the UK.

As with anything though you get what you pay for - and you have to pay for what you get. For us to offer the very best of care for your pet means we have to invest heavily in equipment and facilities. We also only employ excellent and experienced staff and we reward them accordingly to ensure their loyalty and dedication. All this means that our fees are going to be higher than some other practices where their cost base is lower than ours would be. We will not compromise on care and as such our fees are structured to cover the extra costs associated with this pledge. Please see Our Philosophy for more.

Detailed Invoicing and Estimates

When you are in with us with your pet we will, before proceeding with any investigations or procedures, give you as accurate an estimate of our fees as we can.

We are very conscious that it is your absolute right to understand how exactly any fee is reached and as such we insist on absolute transparency in this regard. We will always provide a detailed breakdown of how a fee is reached - e.g. consultations, medications, anaesthesia, investigations, hospitilisation etc. - and you will always receive a detailed invoice when settling an account. We are of course happy to discuss with you any aspect of how a fee is reached - please ask if you have a query.

There are times though that it will be very difficult to estimate the costs as we cannot always say at the outset of a case how long it will be before we reach a definitive diagnosis or how long before we see a response to treatment. If this is the case we will let you know and discuss with you how best to proceed.

Modern Veterinary Care

The costs associated with modern veterinary care can sometimes be quite substantial - for example a complicated fracture requiring bone plates may cost over €1000 to repair or a specialised operation ('TPLO') performed in the University Veterinary Hospital on the knees of large dogs with ruptured cruciate ligaments can come to almost €2000. Long term treatment of chronic conditions can also be very expensive - perhaps over €8000 for a dog with diabetes diagnosed today and living for another 10 years.

For these reasons we strongly advise that you take out Pet Health Insurance for your pet. By doing so the most you will have to pay for any illness or injury your pet suffers from is the excess of €60* - the insurance company will pay the rest directly to us.

Having you pet insured allows us the freedom to offer the best of care without worrying that we are spending too much or without you worrying if you can afford it. It allows us to put all our efforts into what we are trained to do - to diagnose and cure your pet to the best of our ability and by using all the modern diagnostic tests and medications we have at our disposal.

*a €60 excess is payable by the owner per condition per policy year until age 10. When the pet is over 10 years of age the excess changes to 35% of the total cost + €60. The maximum amount payable for veterinary fees in any policy year is €3200.
